SJÖBLOM

Swedish post-punk/dark pop act Sjöblom has carved out a distinct space between gothic melancholy and melodic immediacy — atmospheric yet direct, introspective yet expansive.

Founded by Johan Sjöblom Eliot (formerly of The Exploding Boy) and joined by Robert Eklind (ex-Malaise), Sjöblom began as a deeply personal outlet: songs written without compromise, rooted in post-punk mood but open to shimmer, restraint, and pop sensibility. What emerged was not a side project, but a fully realized artistic identity.

Over time, the band has evolved from dark indie introspection into a broader sonic palette — balancing gothic textures, Britpop-leaning hooks, and subtle electronic undercurrents. Their latest album, Dead of Night, marks a confident step forward: cinematic in scope, emotionally resonant, and sharpened by modern production. Tracks like “Dead For Years” and “Fly Away With Me” showcase their ability to merge pulsating synth lines with wistful lyricism, exploring themes of love, loss, and endurance without losing their post-punk foundation.

In support of the album, Sjöblom toured alongside UK industrial pioneers The Cassandra Complex, bringing their immersive live show to audiences across Europe. On stage, the material expands — guitars cut sharper, synths swell wider, and Johan’s vocals carry both vulnerability and quiet intensity.

Sjöblom’s strength lies in nuance. The darkness is understated rather than theatrical. The melodies are deliberate. The emotion feels lived-in. It’s post-punk with depth and dark pop with conviction — rooted in tradition, but unmistakably contemporary.
